As many Americans abandon SUVs and light trucks for more fuel-efficient vehicles, automakers are scrambling to gauge how low ownership will go.

Volkswagen boss Martin Winterkorn says "the future belongs to all-electric cars" and announces the company's first step toward that day -- a diesel-electric plug-in hybrid it'll have on the road by 2010.

Featuring a 550 hp engine, the SUV sprints from 0-100 km/h in less than 5 seconds and has a top speed of 250+ km/h. Based on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the body kit of the car consists in a front skirt, a GT Evo front bonnet, fender extensions, side skirts and a rear skirt.
